50% tariff will be imposed on India, America has issued a notification, Trump's bet to put pressure on Putin
The Trump administration has announced an additional 25% import duty on Indian goods, raising total tariffs to 50% from August 27. The move, aimed at pressuring Russia over its oil trade, comes as Washington seeks to influence the Ukraine war negotiations, while India calls the tariffs unfair.

Washington, The Trump administration of America has officially issued a public notice regarding imposing an additional 25 percent duty on imports from India. It has been told that the new duty will come into effect from 12.01 am (Eastern Standard Time) on August 27. President Trump had signed an order earlier this month to impose an additional tariff of 25 percent on India for the purchase of Russian oil. The notice of the Department of Homeland Security through the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said that these duties will be applicable under the executive order signed by President Donald Trump on August 6.
Tariff on India increased to 50 percent
With the implementation of this tariff, the import duty on Indian goods reaching America will increase to 50 percent. Trump has already imposed a 25 percent tariff on all Indian imports, which is effective from August 7. The notice is the latest sign that the White House is planning to push forward with tariff hikes as efforts for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine appear to be stalling.
India targeted to put pressure on Putin
The US hopes to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring him to the negotiating table to end the Ukraine war by blocking Moscow's oil trade. The US President has talked about additional secondary tariffs against India. India has called these secondary tariffs unfair and defended its interests.
The US President has threatened that if no agreement is reached on the Ukraine war, he could impose additional tariffs on countries trading with Russia. He warned that if there is no progress, there will be 'very serious consequences' in the coming weeks. However, the US has not imposed similar measures on other major buyers of Russian energy, including China.
