Travel with ease this Christmas and New Year!, Indian Railways is running special trains to these destinations
Northeast Frontier Railway runs special Christmas–New Year 2026 trains and upgrades Guwahati Railway Station with modern retiring rooms for passenger comfort.
In view of the heavy rush of passengers across the country during the Christmas and New Year 2026 celebrations, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken a significant step. To facilitate the millions of passengers returning home or traveling during the festive season, NFR has decided to run three pairs of special trains connecting major cities of the Northeast with other parts of the country. This initiative will not only manage the extra rush but also provide passengers with a comfortable and safe journey. Additionally, keeping in mind the comfort and convenience of passengers, NFR has further modernized the Guwahati Railway Station. The retiring rooms and dormitories at the station have been upgraded with world-class amenities, including fully air-conditioned rooms, comfortable beds, and improved interiors. This dual effort by NFR will provide great relief to passengers in the Northeast during the festive season, where there is a huge rush for trains in the last week of December every year. These special trains and upgraded facilities will enhance railway connectivity and make the journey memorable.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that the special trains include Guwahati-Sairang (Mizoram)-Guwahati, Dibrugarh-Lucknow-Dibrugarh, and New Delhi-Kamakhya-New Delhi, which are being run for the convenience of passengers during the festive season.
Which train will run from where and on which date?
The Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Christmas Special will run for two trips in each direction. The Guwahati-Sairang Special will depart from Guwahati on December 22 and 24, 2025. On its return journey, the Sairang-Guwahati Special will depart from Sairang on December 23 and 25, 2025.
For the convenience of passengers, the train will have two AC 3-tier, two General Second Class, eight Sleeper Class, and two General Second Luggage-cum-Brake Van coaches. The CPRO said that information regarding the stoppages and timings of these trains is available on the IRCTC website and is also being published in various newspapers and on social media platforms of Northeast Frontier Railway. Passengers are requested to confirm all details before commencing their journey.
Station Amenities to be Enhanced
Meanwhile, to enhance passenger comfort and station amenities, NFR has recently upgraded the retiring rooms and dormitories at Guwahati Railway Station under Lumding Division and equipped them with world-class facilities. The retiring room complex, located on the first floor of the station building, now offers an improved accommodation experience for railway passengers. It comprises nine retiring rooms, including seven two-bedded rooms and two five-bedded rooms, along with a 12-bedded dormitory.
As part of the upgrade, all rooms have been fully air-conditioned and fitted with comfortable beds and improved interiors. This provides rail passengers with a modern, clean, and convenient environment during their transit.
