China on Monday strongly opposed the 50% tariff imposed on India by the Trump administration, calling it 'unfair and unnecessary'. Chinese ambassador Xu Fehong said that India and China should jointly face this challenge by increasing economic cooperation. He said that the US is using tariffs as a weapon and is charging a heavy price from many countries. He said, 'India and China are two big emerging economies. We have to deal with this situation together.'

'Important consensus reached between India and China on border issues'

Xu Fehong also said that an important consensus has been reached between India and China on border issues and their relations have not been affected by any third country, such as Pakistan. The ambassador said that during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, both the leaders emphasized on increasing mutual cooperation. Shu said, 'Prime Minister Modi had said that India-China cooperation can make the 21st century the real Asian century. Both leaders emphasized on strengthening economic cooperation.'

'Both India and China are victims of terrorism'

Speaking on terrorism, he said, 'Both India and China are victims of terrorism. We are cooperating in anti-terrorism efforts through multilateral forums like SCO, BRICS. China opposes all forms of terrorism and is ready to work together with the international community, including India.' He also said that both countries should use their resources for national development. He said. 'We should strengthen development strategies and share experiences of modernity while helping each other.'

The ambassador said that so far this year more than 2.4 lakh visas have been issued to Indian citizens. He said that more Indian companies should invest and do business in China, and India should also provide a fair and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies.
