Mid Day Meal workers strike from August 21, DEO-DPO given responsibility
In Patna, Mid Day Meal Scheme employees announced an indefinite strike from 21 August 2025. Bihar Education Department has directed DEOs and DPOs of all districts to ensure children continue receiving meals. Director Vinayak Mishra appealed to postpone the strike, stating talks are ongoing over honorarium hike.

Patna, In Patna, Bihar, the employees of Mid Day Meal Scheme have announced to go on indefinite strike from August 21, 2025. In view of the strike, the State Education Department has directed the DEO (District Education Officer) and DPO (Mid Day Meal Scheme Officer) of all the districts to take necessary action and alternative arrangements, so that the children do not stop getting mid day meal.
Mid Day Meal Scheme Director Vinayak Mishra said that the scheme is directly linked to the nutrition and education of children, so it should not be disrupted under any circumstances. The director has also sent a letter to the union appealing to postpone the strike and told that talks are going on with the higher officials regarding the honorarium hike.
In view of the possibility of children not getting food due to the union strike, the DEO and DPO of all the districts have been given the responsibility to ensure alternative arrangements. If the employees go on strike, the officers should distribute food in the schools themselves or through alternative means.
