The highway being built from Delhi to Dehradun is almost completely complete. According to reports, it will be opened to the public in March 2026. Once the highway is open, it will take only 2.5 hours to reach Dehradun from Delhi, instead of the usual 6 to 7 hours. This highway has been built at a cost of approximately ₹12,000 crore. Its most significant feature is that it features India's longest 12-kilometer elevated road, which will pass over Rajaji Park.
Where will the Delhi-Dehradun Highway pass?
Minister of State for Transport Harsh Malhotra stated that this highway will begin at Akshardham in Delhi and continue through Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur to Dehradun. This means that many areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will gain direct connectivity. The construction of this highway will significantly reduce traffic and congestion along the route. This highway could prove to be very beneficial for both tourism and business, as travel to Dehradun and nearby hill stations will become easier.
The journey from Delhi to Katra will be reduced to 6-7 hours.
Work on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra highway is currently underway and will be completed by 2027. Currently, it takes approximately 10 to 12 hours to reach Katra from Delhi. However, once the highway is complete, this distance will be covered in just 6 to 7 hours. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹45,000 crore (45,000 crore rupees). This highway will prove to be a major relief for religious pilgrims, as millions of pilgrims travel to Katra every year.
Plan to Remove Mountains of Garbage from Delhi
Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra stated that the central government has provided ₹3,500 crore (3,500 crore rupees) to the Delhi government to remove the mountains of garbage in Delhi. There are three major dumping sites in Delhi, which have been the subject of prolonged political debate, but the work has not been carried out properly. The government now aims to completely eliminate these three dumping sites by 2027.
Furthermore, he stated that approximately ₹3 lakh crore (3 lakh crore rupees) has been allocated for infrastructure development. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be dedicated to the public by the end of 2027, and the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Highway is expected to be completed within the next year.
