Supreme Court expressed surprise in Bihar SIR case, Sought answers from political parties
The Supreme Court expressed concern over Bihar’s voter list revision, directing the Chief Electoral Officer to issue notices to 12 political parties for inaction. The court allowed online voter registration and corrections with Form-6 or Aadhaar. Next hearing on 8 September 2025.

Patna, The Supreme Court heard on Friday (22 August 2025) regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. During this, the court expressed surprise at the inaction of the political parties and directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar to issue notice to the presidents and general secretaries of all 12 registered political parties. The court said that these parties will have to file a status report on the status of their participation in the voter list correction process in the next hearing. The next hearing of this case will now be held on 8 September 2025.
What did the bench say about the matter
A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said during the hearing that they were surprised that despite having 1.6 lakh booth level agents (BLAs), only two complaints have been filed by political parties for correction in the draft voter list. The court ordered the representatives of all 12 political parties to be present in the next hearing. You can apply online for registering or
correcting your name
The Supreme Court, while giving relief to the voters, said that now online applications can be submitted for registering or correcting your name in the voter list. For this, it will not be necessary to submit the form physically. The court also clarified that submitting any one of the 11 documents prescribed for Form-6 or Aadhar card will be sufficient.
Court's instructions to political parties
During the hearing, some political parties argued that their booth level agents are not being allowed to file objections. On this, the court took a tough stand and said that if the parties had performed their responsibilities properly, then the situation of transparency and improvement in the process would have been better. The court also commented that the common people are more aware than the political parties, because after August 1, 2.63 lakh new voters have applied for registration.
