Bihar Election 2025 Phase 1 begins today across 121 seats in 18 districts. Over 3.75 crore voters to decide fate of 1,314 candidates amid tight security.
The first phase of voting in Bihar is today, November 6th. Voting will take place from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM at 45,341 polling stations across 115 Assembly constituencies. Voting will be held from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM at 2,135 polling stations across six Assembly constituencies. Polling personnel arrived from dispatch centers early Wednesday morning with EVMs, VVPATs, and other materials. All preparations were complete at the booths by 4:00 AM. A mock poll was conducted at 5:00 AM in the presence of booth-level agents. Voting will begin two hours later, at 7:00 AM. Four lakh security personnel have been deployed to ensure no security lapses.
Voting in these districts in the first phase
Voting will take place in 121 constituencies across 18 districts in the first phase. These districts are Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna, Bhojpur, and Buxar. A total of 2,496 nominations were filed for these 121 seats. Upon scrutiny, 1,939 were found valid. Of these, 70 candidates later withdrew their nominations. Subsequently, the nominations were scrutinized in multiple sets, with one nomination per candidate accepted, bringing the total number of candidates to 1,314. These include 1,192 men and 122 women. Voting will take place in this phase for 102 general and 19 Scheduled Caste reserved seats.

Of the 1,314 candidates, the National Democratic Alliance has 57 candidates from the JDU, 48 from the BJP, 13 from Chirag Paswan's LJP, two from Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP, and one from Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM. The Grand Alliance has 72 candidates from the RJD, 24 from the Congress, 14 from the CPI(ML), six each from the CPI and VIP, three from the CPM, and two from IP Gupta's IIP. Friendly contests are taking place on six seats.
6,736 voters over the age of 100
A total of 37.513 million voters will exercise their franchise in the first phase. This includes 19.835 million voters, 17.67 million women, and 758 third-gender voters. Apart from this, 1,00,904 service voters will also cast their votes in this phase. Special facilities have been ensured for disabled and elderly voters at the polling stations. 3,22,077 disabled voters and 5,31,423 senior citizen voters (which include 5,24,687 voters above 80 years of age and 6,736 voters above 100 years of age) will also participate in this great festival of democracy. In the first phase of polling, there are 7 lakh 37 thousand 765 voters who will vote for the first time. Most of these are young voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years. Whereas 1,96,27,330 young voters between 18 to 40 years of age are going to play an important role in this election.
