Shivshankar Gupta had entered the enemy's den to bring the commander's body

Shivshankar Gupta, son of Nandlal Gupta and Poonam Devi, residents of Bunchar village of Rafiganj block of Aurangabad, joined the army on 28 October 1996, two and a half years before the Kargil war. He was a soldier in the first battalion of the Bihar Regiment. This is the same regiment which attacked the enemies first and this is where the Kargil war started. In this war, the soldiers and officers of the battalion of Bihar Regiment were the first to be martyred. Sepoy Shivshankar Gupta was also included in this. When the enemies attacked the battalion of Bihar Regiment, Lance Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav was in the front line. He was martyred by the bullets of the enemies. Shivshankar was also present there at that time. He wanted to bring the dead body of Ganesh Yadav. He went ahead with his fellow soldiers to bring the body of Ganesh Yadav. After reaching the 14230 feet high rocky and snowy hill, he saw that the body of the company commander Lance Naik was lying near the enemy's den. He crawled to the body and brought down the weapon and bullets. He climbed the hill again to bring the body of Lance Naik. As soon as he reached 50 meters, the enemies started firing. He was also shot but did not lose courage. Taking charge of the front, Shivshankar also fired at the enemies. Firing continued from both sides for about 2 hours. At that time, the body of Lance Naik Ganesh Yadav was captured by the enemies. Shiv Shankar Gupta reached the enemies. When he was returning with the body, the enemies fired again. Even after being shot, he did not lose courage and reached his area carrying the body of Lance Naik Ganesh Yadav on his shoulders. Shiv Shankar Gupta was shot several times. Due to this, he lost a lot of blood. Due to excessive bleeding, he was martyred there. After this, on 6 June 1999, a letter came to Shiv Shankar Gupta's family from the army. On opening the letter, there was a thousand rupees and the news of his son's martyrdom. The family had no news of martyrdom till a month before receiving the letter. About 35 days later, some army soldiers reached the village with the body of martyr Shiv Shankar.
