Villagers of Badgaon protest on the streets against illegal liquor sale, Allegation of police protection
In Katni district’s Badgaon area of Reethi tehsil, villagers, including women and children, staged a rally protesting against illegal liquor sales. Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, police and excise officials are not taking strict action, and liquor is being sold openly at several places, causing addiction, disputes, and resentment in the community.

Katni, Badgaon area of Reethi tehsil of Katni district took to the streets and took out a rally protesting against the sale of illegal liquor. Villagers allege that despite complaining to the police several times, the sale of illegal liquor has not been stopped in the area, which shows that illegal liquor is being sold in the area under the protection of the police.
Women and children of the village also joined the protest against illegal liquor sale. Villagers alleged that Badgaon area of Reethi tehsil of Katni district has become a hub of illegal liquor business these days. In many places in the village, narcotics and liquor are being sold openly, due to which there is resentment and anger among the local people. Villagers allege that despite repeated complaints, the police and the excise department are not taking any concrete steps on this. At the same time, the villagers say that whenever there is a possibility of any action, the police informs the traders in advance, due to which the campaign proves to be futile. The villagers also told that illegal liquor is being sold at at least ten places in the village. The drug business goes on day and night at these places, due to which the youth and teenagers are getting addicted to it. The situation has become such that fights, brawls and family disputes are coming to the fore every day due to intoxication. The villagers say that until concrete action is not taken, their protest will continue. The people of the area are now expecting intervention from the government and higher officials.
