Patna-Purnia Expressway gets national status, This project will be a game changer for Bihar
Patna–Purnia Expressway has been declared National Expressway-9, Bihar’s first fully in-state expressway. It will cut travel time to 3 hours and connect Bihta airport.

The Central Government has given the status of National Expressway to the expressway being built from Patna, the capital of Bihar to Purnia. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has declared this Patna-Purnia Expressway as National Expressway-9 (NE-9). This will be the first expressway in Bihar which is being built completely within the state boundaries. This project will prove to be a game changer for Bihar. With this, one can reach Patna from Purnia by road within just 3 hours.
A separate connecting road will be built to connect the Patna-Purnia Expressway to Samastipur, Saharsa and Madhepura district headquarters. Recently, this 6 lane Greenfield Expressway was approved by the Bihar Government. Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena gave his consent on the request of the National Highway Authority of India. Bihar has requested the Center to publish its tender soon so that construction work can be started this year.
The construction agency will spend 60 percent of the amount, the rest will be borne by the central government. Under PPPAC, this project will be constructed in ham mode. That is, the construction agency will spend 60 percent of the amount itself. The central government will bear 40 percent of the amount. The construction agency will be reimbursed from the toll plaza. The agency will maintain this road for 15 years.
The expressway will pass through these districts, connectivity with Bihta airport too
This expressway, which starts from Mirnagar Arazi village of NH 22 near Sarai toll plaza in Vaishali district, will end at Hansdah near Chand Bhatti of NH 27 in Purnia via Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa and Madhepura. It will be connected to Bihta airport through the bridge to be built between Dighwara and Sherpur. It will also be connected in front of Sarai, JP Setu of Hajipur. Dighwara, which was a part of Patna Ring Road, will be connected to this expressway. It will be constructed in 3 packages.
