Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR causes waterlogging on roads, Traffic jam disrupts life
Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday caused severe waterlogging and traffic jams across key routes. IMD issued a red alert for Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. Office goers and school children faced major disruptions due to knee-deep water and long traffic queues.

Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning completely affected life. Office goers and school children faced a lot of trouble due to waterlogging and traffic jams on the roads. The rain halted the pace of Delhi and traffic was badly affected in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR, warning of moderate to heavy rains with strong winds and thunderstorms at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph. Red alert was in force in areas around Delhi including Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
North-West and South-West Delhi
At the same time, an orange alert was issued in parts of North-West and South-West Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan, where light to moderate rains and strong winds were expected. Due to heavy rains, roads were flooded in many major areas of Delhi. There was a huge jam due to traffic signals and slow movement at three major intersections connecting Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi Railway Station and ITO. However, there was no disruption in flight operations despite heavy rains around the airport.
Rain made the situation worse
Areas like Press Enclave Road, Anuvrat Marg near Qutub Minar Metro Station, Sainik Farms, Ashram near Saket Metro Station and Mathura Road were already waterlogged after heavy rains on Tuesday, July 22. Wednesday's rain made the situation worse.
Traffic jam on major routes
Traffic jams occurred on major routes like NH-8, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, ITO and Lutyens Delhi. Vehicles were stuck in long queues at many places. Travel from Nangloi to Najafgarh and on the Delhi-Ghaziabad corridor was taking more than an hour. People were troubled due to submerged footpaths and knee-deep water in colonies.
