Ignoring US President Donald Trump's threats of imposing extra tariffs, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has reached Russia. Amidst threats of tariffs by Donald Trump, Doval will focus on strengthening defence ties between the two countries. During Doval's visit to Russia, there may also be talks on the purchase of additional S-400 missile defence systems and Su-57 fighter jets.

According to a report in The Economic Times, India and Russia will discuss the possibility of purchasing additional S-400 missile systems. This conversation may also include setting up an S-400 manufacturing facility in India. Russian S-400 systems played an important role in Operation Sindoor. Brahmos missiles jointly developed by India and Russia also caused massive destruction in Pakistan. If everything goes well, a big defense deal can happen between India and Russia in the coming few months, which can also include the purchase of Sukhoi-57 stealth fighter jets.

Let us tell you that Trump had announced a 25 percent duty on India last week. After this, on Wednesday, Donald Trump issued an order to impose an additional 25 percent duty on imports from India. The reason behind this decision was said to be India's continued purchase of oil from Russia. The Trump administration's order states that India is directly or indirectly importing oil from Russia, which the US considers a threat to its national security and foreign policy. However, India does not seem to be backing down under Trump's pressure.

India's response to US tariffs

India's Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement on US tariffs. Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, clearly said that the US has targeted India's oil imports from Russia in recent times. We have already made our position clear on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and are made with the overall objective of ensuring energy security of India's 1.4 billion people.

He said that it is extremely unfortunate that the US has chosen to impose additional duties on India for actions that many other countries are also doing in their national interest. We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjust and unreasonable. India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
