Radhakrishnan welcomed in NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, PM Modi appeals for support from opposition

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan was felicitated at a meeting of ruling party MPs on Tuesday. During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his top leaders including many BJP allies welcomed Radhakrishnan. Prime Minister Modi sought support for the NDA candidate from all leaders, especially the opposition. Radhakrishnan may file his nomination on Wednesday.

Radhakrishnan's victory is considered certain despite indications of the opposition alliance India fielding its own candidate and contesting the election, as the BJP-led NDA has a sufficient majority in the electoral college comprising MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Senior BJP leader Radhakrishnan (67) is currently the Governor of Maharashtra. He originally hails from Tamil Nadu.

After the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, 'NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election CP Radhakrishnan was introduced in the meeting. NDA floor leaders, MPs warmly welcomed CP Radhakrishnan ji, congratulated him and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister. He was introduced by Prime Minister Modi in the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting.'

He said, 'Along with the introduction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed that the entire party and MPs of all parties should unite and unanimously support the candidate decided by the NDA for the Vice Presidential election. CP Radhakrishnan is a very good name for the post of Vice President. Everyone has accepted it. There is no controversy, no corruption, no stain in his life, he has lived a very simple life and has only worked for the society and the country. If such a person becomes the Vice President of the country, it will be a matter of great happiness for the country.'
