A similar incident in Indore: Relatives and acquaintances were not informed of the funeral procession due to the festival
Indore’s Patel family held a private funeral for Shakuntala Patel during the festival, following Narhari Patel’s wish to avoid worry and public condolence.
The prominent Patel family of Indore, associated with literature and theatre, set a unique example in dealing with a family bereavement. Shakuntala Patel, wife of literary figure Narhari Patel and mother of theatre artist Sanjay Patel, passed away on Friday. In keeping with the festival, the Patel family did not inform their relatives and acquaintances. Consequently, most of them remained unaware of her passing, and only received news of her death on Sunday.
Literary figure Narhari Patel had decided that since it was a festival season, everyone would be busy and would be worried, so he should not inform everyone. Sanjay listened to his father's advice and kept the information about the funeral procession limited. Although this decision was not liked by acquaintances who were close to the Patel family, who wanted to join the funeral procession, many praised this unusual decision. Sanjay Patel performed his mother's last rites with a select group of friends, relatives, and neighbors. Relatives were also prohibited from sharing the funeral message on social media.
No condolence meeting was held
On Sunday, the funeral service was only half an hour long. Many prominent citizens and music lovers attended the funeral service, which took place from 4 to 4:30 pm, and expressed their condolences for Shakuntala Patel's passing. Due to the festive occasion, the Patel family decided not to hold a condolence meeting after the funeral.
