Balance between development and environment is necessary - CJI

While hearing the case, CJI Gavai said- "We have seen unprecedented rains and floods. On this, notice is issued to the governments of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Prima facie it appears that there has been large-scale illegal felling. A reply should be filed on this in three weeks. Media reports show a large number of logs flowing from Himachal. This is a serious matter. We are seeing pictures of Punjab, where entire fields and villages have been destroyed. Balance between development and environment is necessary."

'We have tampered with nature so much that...'

The CJI has told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that this is a very serious matter. Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta has also said a big thing during the hearing in the Supreme Court. He said- "We have tampered with nature so much that now it is answering us for the same."
