Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a big statement on the 50 percent tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods. At the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, PM Narendra Modi said that the interest of farmers is the top priority for us. PM Modi said that India will never compromise with the interests of its farmers, livestock farmers and fishermen brothers and sisters.

In his address, PM Modi said, "The interest of farmers is the top priority for us. India will never compromise with the interests of its farmers, livestock farmers and fishermen brothers and sisters and I know that personally I will have to pay a huge price for this but I am ready for it. Today India is ready for the farmers of my country, for the fishermen of my country, for the livestock farmers of my country."

This statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being considered as a response to Trump's tariff war. Let us tell you that Trump had announced to impose a 25 percent duty on India last week. After this, on Wednesday, Donald Trump issued an order to impose an additional duty of 25 percent on imports from India. The reason behind this decision was India's continued purchase of oil from Russia.

The Trump administration's order states that India is directly or indirectly importing oil from Russia, which America considers a threat to its national security and foreign policy.

India's response to US tariffs

India's Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement on US tariffs. Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, clearly said that the US has targeted India's oil imports from Russia in recent times. We have already made our position clear on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and are done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of India's 1.4 billion people.

He said that it is extremely unfortunate that the US has chosen to impose additional duties on India for the work that many other countries are also doing in their national interest. We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjust and unreasonable. India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
