India gave a befitting reply to Donald Trump's 50% tariff, Deal worth crores cancelled! America gets a big blow
US President Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India over its oil trade with Russia. In response, India has cancelled a major $3.78 billion deal to buy six P-8I Poseidon aircraft from Boeing for naval surveillance. The move marks a sharp turn in Indo-US defense ties, as India accuses the US and EU of imposing unfair tariffs despite their own trade with Moscow.

US President Donald Trump has announced to impose 50 percent tariff on India due to India's oil trade with Russia. The Indian government has also decided to respond to this attitude of America. According to a report, the Indian government has taken a big step against America and cancelled an important military deal. According to a report by defense website IDRW, India decided to stop this deal on August 3.
According to the IANS report, India had signed a deal to buy six P-8I Poseidon aircraft from the US Boeing company for its navy. These aircraft were to be used for surveillance at sea. The Indian Navy needs these aircraft. These American aircraft are very modern and advanced. They are important to keep an eye on the growing influence of China from the Arabian Sea to the Indian Ocean. But, for the time being this deal has been stopped.
The Indian Navy already has 12 such aircraft. India had bought planes from Boeing in 2009 and became the first buyer of these planes from the US. At that time the cost was around 19 thousand crores in Indian rupees. In 2016, India bought 4 more planes, which cost 8,500 crores. The Indian Navy had praised the capability and efficiency of this aircraft. After this, 6 more planes were to be bought in 2021, which the US had approved. The deal was stopped due to the cost being 21,000 crores.
In 2025, the cost of the deal had gone up to 31,500 crores, despite this the Indian government had decided to buy these planes. But, at present the deal has been postponed. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had accused the US and the European Union of imposing unethical and irrational tariffs on India. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that the EU trades more with Russia than with India. The US also trades with Moscow. In such a situation, it is unfair to impose tariffs on India.
