At least 20 people are feared dead after a Kaveri Travels AC bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire near Chinna Tekur in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. Approximately 21 people escaped by breaking the bus window and jumping out, saving their lives. Those who could not escape were burned to death. This tragic accident occurred around 3 a.m. today, when the bus caught fire just minutes after colliding with a bike and causing a fuel leak. Twenty people are reported dead, while 11 injured are being treated in the hospital.
According to the bus's additional driver, they first tried to extinguish the fire, and when the fire got out of control, they tried to break the bus's windows. Passersby also broke some of the windows. The Kurnool Superintendent of Police stated that those who jumped off the bus survived.
According to the District Collector, the bus was carrying 41 people, including two drivers. Currently, 21 people have been located, and the bodies of 11 of the remaining 20 have been recovered. Both drivers are absconding. It is reported that the bus doors were locked after the fire broke out. Fire and police teams arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. The bus was completely engulfed in flames. The injured were admitted to the Kurnool Government Hospital. Police have registered an FIR and are investigating the incident.
