Surprise inspection of retail fruit shops of Damoh city
Mangoes ripened with banned carbide do not sink in water despite being heavy

Damoh, as per the instructions given by Collector Sudhir Kumar Kochar, under the guidance of D.O. Food Safety Administration Rakesh Ahirwal, Food Safety Officer Madhavi Budhaulia conducted a surprise inspection of retail fruit vendors of Damoh city under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
During the inspection, fruits of a dozen retail fruit vendors including Aslam Khan fruit vendor located in front of Satkar Lodge, Sohil Rain located in Kachora Market, Dharmendra Patel located in front of Bank of Baroda, Deepak Khatik, Raju Khatik, Sachin Khatik, Mukesh Khatik, Sunil Bhaggi, Chandramohan Namdev were inspected.
On the spot, different varieties of mangoes were dipped in water and observed. In the test, most of the mangoes were seen sinking to the bottom of the water, which confirmed that the mangoes are naturally ripened. Mangoes ripened with the banned calcium carbide do not sink in water despite being very heavy. During inspection, fruits like mango and banana were not found ripening with the banned calcium carbide in any retail fruit shop. On the spot, all retail fruit sellers have been instructed not to store or sell rotten and contaminated fruits.
