Katni, the Bharat Bandh called by Dalit and tribal organizations against the recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding reservation did not have much effect in Katni. The bandh had a mixed effect in the market. Dalit and tribal organizations took out a rally in the city and appealed to the traders to observe a bandh and after this, a memorandum was submitted to the SDM demanding the withdrawal of the decision.
The officials and workers of Dalit and tribal organizations involved in the rally were raising slogans against the decision with flags and banners in their hands. It is worth noting that Dalit and tribal organizations have called for Bharat Bandh today. And their demand is that a new law should be passed on reservation for SC-ST and OBC and the Supreme Court should withdraw or reconsider its recent quota-in-quota decision. The Aarakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti says that this decision violates the constitutional rights of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Bharat Bandh has been supported by most opposition parties including the Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal and leftist parties.
