A major international initiative has been taken to protect Indonesia's rich biodiversity and wildlife. India's flagship wildlife conservation initiative, Vantara, and the Government of Indonesia have launched a strategic partnership to promote wildlife health and in-situ conservation.

Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antony officially announced this multifaceted collaboration during a press conference in Jakarta. The initiative's primary objective is to modernize Indonesia's veterinary infrastructure, develop local capacities, and provide better protection to endangered species in their natural environments.

Addressing the press, Indonesia's Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antony stated that wildlife protection is the primary responsibility of the state. He clarified that the full ownership, management, and operation of all facilities and programs developed under this partnership will remain with the Government of Indonesia and its relevant authorities.

Anant Ambani's initiative 'Vantara' and 'Fauna Land' share a commitment
Vantara, one of the world's largest wildlife conservation initiatives, was founded by Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited. This international partnership also includes Indonesia's prestigious wildlife organization, PT Fauna Land Group, as a key partner.

Commenting on the partnership, Vantara CEO Vivan Karani said:

What's going to change on the ground? (Key initiatives)
The following key initiatives will be implemented under this MoU between the two countries:

10 'Hospitals on Wheels': State-of-the-art mobile medical units will be deployed to remote forests and field areas to provide on-the-spot emergency medical care to injured or sick animals.

Modernization of the We Kambus Elephant Hospital: The We Kambus Elephant Hospital will be transformed into a premier elephant treatment and care center, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and global technologies. The center will directly serve 62 Sumatran elephants living under human care and approximately 100 wild Sumatran elephants living in the surrounding forests.

Capacity Building and Training: Local Indonesian doctors, mahouts (elephant caretakers), and forest guards will receive advanced veterinary and wildlife management training.
