Even in today's modern era, the roots of superstition are so strong that people have more faith in tantra-mantra than science and logic. A live example of this was seen today in Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital of Supaul where two patients were brought to the hospital for treatment after snake bite, but before reaching the doctors in the hospital, three tantriks were called in the hospital premises. Who did a drama of exorcism for hours. Not only this, a crowd of people gathered in the hospital to see this drama. Then the game of superstition continued for hours and the hospital administration kept watching all this with folded hands.
The tantriks had such a hold in the Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital that even the medical system there remained silent for some time. The tantriks dragged the process of exorcism so much that it took a long time for the treatment of the patients to start. Actually, a 10-year-old boy from Maheshuwa Ward 11 of Triveniganj was bitten by a snake. A woman from Baghla village of Triveniganj also reached Triveniganj hospital for treatment after snakebite, but the hospital administration remained a silent spectator in this drama that went on for hours by the tantriks and no one tried to raise voice against this superstition.
This makes it clear that even today some people of the village have a lot of faith in tantra-mantra. Whereas so much progress has been made in the field of medical science. After the drama of exorcism done by the tantriks, the doctors started treating the patients. However, it was a matter of good fortune that both the patients did not have any symptoms of snakebite. Triveniganj hospital doctor Dr. Dev Diwakar said that both the patients did not have any symptoms of snakebite and at present both are stable. However, it is important that people should be taught to believe in medical science by getting them out of the circle of superstition and tantra-mantra. For this, education and awareness campaigns are needed, so that the society can become free from such superstitions and move towards a healthy life.
