Wasim Akram, son of Gopalganj, was sentenced to 10 years in a Dubai jail
Gopalganj's son 'Wasim' returns home after months, family in tears
Today is no less than a festival for a family in Gopalganj. Wasim Akram, a young man from the district who was serving a 10-year sentence in Dubai, has finally returned home. After months of helplessness, waiting, and prayers, the family is filled with tears of joy at his son's return home. Upon returning, Wasim first went to meet Gopalganj MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman. The MP hugged him, fed him sweets with his own hands, and said that this is a moment of joy not just for one family, but for the entire Gopalganj and the country.
Wasim Akram, who went to Dubai from Indrawa Rafi village in Gopalganj's Thawe block in search of employment, never imagined that he would one day end up in jail there. On March 6, Dubai police detained him. He was accused of filming a restricted area during the Iran-US tensions. The case went to court, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. As soon as this news reached the village, a mountain of grief fell upon the family. The parents lost sleep, and everyone's mind was filled with one question: would Wasim ever return?
During this time of despair, the family appealed to Gopalganj MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman. The MP immediately contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and took the matter seriously. Constant coordination ensued between the Indian government, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy, and the Dubai administration. The legal process was completed, and finally, the day came when Wasim's release was cleared and he was safely returned to India.
Upon returning home, Wasim went straight to the residence of MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman. There, the MP welcomed him with a hug and fed him sweets. This emotional moment moved everyone present. The MP said that as soon as he learned of this incident, he had decided to make every effort to bring this son of the district back to his family.
Speaking about this, MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman said, "As soon as we learned that a young man from Gopalganj was facing legal trouble in Dubai, our concern increased. We immediately contacted the Ministry of External Affairs. With the support of the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy, and the Dubai administration, Waseem is now with his family. This is a victory of the collective efforts and faith of the entire nation."
During his meeting with the MP, Waseem also recounted the difficult days he spent in jail. He said that at times, he felt hopeless, but he was confident that his country would not abandon him. Waseem expressed his gratitude to MP Dr. Alok Kumar Suman, the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs, and all the officials who made continuous efforts for his release.
Waseem Akram's return is not just a young man's return home, but a triumph of hope, trust, and collective effort. This story shows that with timely action and the government, public representatives, and the administration working together, effective assistance to Indian citizens stranded abroad is possible. After waiting for many months, today happiness has returned to Wasim's house and smiles have returned on the faces of the family.
