Gaya, Gaya DM Dr. Tyagarajan SM held a meeting with officials to stop illegal sand mining and transportation. Contractors of all settlement ghats, all officials of the mining department, all circle officers, police station in-charge, sub-divisional officer, sub-divisional police officer attended this meeting. Many necessary instructions were given to stop illegal sand mining.
Gaya DM said that all circle officers, police station in-charges should jointly conduct continuous raids. Apart from this, sub-divisional officer and sub-divisional police officer must compulsorily raid sand ghats 2 days a week. Raid should be done with full preparation so that maximum recovery can be done. Let us tell you that due to monsoon, lifting of sand from rivers and ghats has been stopped from June 15. At present, no sand ghat is operational. If any vehicle lifts sand from the river or ghat, it will be considered completely illegal. The DM directed the contractor of all settlement ghats to physically inspect their respective ghats. Wherever pits have been formed due to sand lifting, they should be levelled so that no incident related to drowning in the river occurs.
There is a possibility of incidents due to rainwater filling the pits formed due to sand lifting from the ghats. He directed the officer of the mining department and the contractor of the concerned sand ghat to jointly survey the ghats and get all the pits seen in the survey levelled. Apart from this, the DM said that the officers nominated by the Circle Officer and Sub-Divisional Officer will also survey the pits formed on the ghats and coordinate with the mining officer and ensure the filling of the pits.
The DM of Gaya district gave instructions and said that in any case, the pits formed due to sand lifting in the ghats should be levelled by June 30. The District Mining Officer said that 182 raids were conducted between April and June in which 20 FIRs were registered. 6 people were arrested and 56 vehicles were seized. During this period, a fine of Rs 191.95 lakh was collected. Gaya DM has given strict instructions to all the officers to prepare a complete plan and conduct regular raids and take strict action against big mafias. Sand mafia will not be spared under any circumstances.
