Patna. Bihar's Health and Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey has said that eating fish improves physical health as well as intelligence. People of Bihar are now getting fresh fish to eat. In the last ten years, Bihar has registered an increase of about 200 percent in fish production. This has increased employment as well as people's income. Bihar is now close to becoming self-sufficient in fish production. Our dependence on fish from Andhra and Bengal is continuously decreasing. In the Seemanchal area, Bihar's fish is being exported to Bengal.

Fish production increased by 200 percent in 10 years

Giving information about the increase in non-vegetarian production in Bihar, Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey said that in the last 10 years, not only fish but also milk, egg and meat production has increased in the state. In a program organized at Gyan Bhavan, he said that there has been an increase of 160 percent in milk, 207 percent in egg, 120 percent in meat and 193 percent in fish production. He said that in 2023-24, fish production in the state was 8.73 lakh tonnes. Before 2005, the production was very low. Today we have become self-sufficient in fish production. Annually 38 thousand tonnes of fish is now being sent from Bihar to other states.

70 percent seed production from 207 hatcheries in Bihar

Animal and Fisheries Resources Minister Renu Devi said that under the fourth agricultural roadmap, there is a provision of 3 thousand crores for animal and fisheries resource development from the year 2023 to 28. 70 percent of the fish seed required is being produced from 207 hatcheries in Bihar. Principal Secretary of the Department Dr. N Vijayalakshmi said that 85 to 90 thousand crores are received from milk, meat, fish and egg production. It can be increased to 2 lakh crores annually. On the occasion, cheques were given to the beneficiaries for the fish farming scheme.
