Nitish government had taken a big decision regarding Panchayati Raj department in the cabinet meeting 2 days ago. It was decided to get the work of less than 15 lakh done through tender but now the government seems to be taking a U-turn on its decision. The government was going to try to rein in the Mukhiya through the decision taken in the cabinet but in view of the displeasure of the Mukhiya Sangh, it has decided to reconsider. This information was given by Panchayati Raj Department Minister Kedar Gupta.

The government decided that for small schemes, schemes costing up to Rs 15 lakh at the Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti level will be done through limited tender and all other works will be done through open tender. The decision taken in the cabinet was going to have a direct impact on the Mukhiya and Pramukh. Their financial rights would have been reined in. After this, the Mukhiya Sangh expressed its displeasure over this and talked about agitation.
