In view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan and war-like situation, high alert has been issued in Seemanchal region of Bihar. Security arrangements have been tightened in Purnia, Araria, Katihar and Kishanganj districts. Border Security Force (SSB) and Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed on the border with full alertness. All leaves of the police department have been cancelled and the policemen who are on leave have been ordered to return to duty immediately. Clear instructions have been given in this regard that departmental action will be taken against those who remain absent.

Purnia region DIG Pramod Kumar Mandal said that high alert has been imposed in all the four districts on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry. A joint meeting has been held with the SSB and intensive checking of vehicles and commuters is being done in the border areas. He said that all the hotels are also being checked so that strict vigil can be kept on any suspicious activity. Special security forces have been deployed at Kursela Bridge and Kursela Rail Bridge in Katihar.

The DIG also said that special vigilance is being maintained on the Nepal border in Araria and the Nepal and Bangladesh border in Kishanganj. Intelligence agencies are also active and strict monitoring of sleeper cells and other suspicious activities is being done. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the Seemanchal region, all security agencies are on alert.

It is worth noting that recently four Chinese citizens were detained from the India-Nepal border in Raxaul. At the same time, six smugglers have been arrested with two kg of cobra venom in Forbesganj. Apart from this, on the instructions of the Home Ministry, mock drills were also organized in all the four districts of Seemanchal, in which common people were trained to deal with emergency situations.
