Weapon to marginalize Muslims
Rahul Gandhi's strong opposition to Waqf Bill
Amid the ongoing debate in the Lok Sabha on the Waqf Bill, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has expressed strong opposition. He has said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is a weapon aimed at marginalizing Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights.
Rahul Gandhi further said that this attack on the Constitution by the RSS, BJP and their allies is targeted at Muslims today. The Congress Party strongly opposes this law as it attacks the basic idea of India and violates Article 25, the right to religious freedom.
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also opposed the Waqf Bill. He said that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill of the Modi government is completely unconstitutional, which undermines the right to religious freedom and seeks to bring personal laws under the control of the state. The BJP, which has long considered minorities as second-class citizens, is now targeting their properties through this bill. The Congress party will oppose this divisive RSS/BJP agenda which is against the law of the country.
At the same time, Congress' Gaurav Gogoi, while starting the debate on the proposal by Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to discuss and pass the bill in the House, said that the opposition also wants necessary amendments to be made in the law, but the government's intention is not right and is doing the politics of division. He said that the government is trying to spread confusion regarding the Waqf Bill. The Constitution of the country talks about ensuring equality to every person, protection of fundamental rights, protection of the federal structure and integrity of the nation, but the government's Waqf Bill is an attack on the Constitution and is aimed at protecting the vote bank by dividing the society by spreading confusion.
