Saharanpur, Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Chauhan has directed the construction officers to investigate whether the basements constructed in the buildings of Municipal Corporation Saharanpur have been constructed as per the map or not and whether they are being used as per the approved norms or not and has appointed the Chief Engineer Construction BK Singh of the Corporation as the nodal officer. In view of the accident related to loss of life due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching institute located in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, the Corporation has taken this step in compliance with the orders of the government for the safety of basements and required precautions. Chief Engineer Construction BK Singh said that a team of junior engineers has been appointed to investigate the basements. He said that the basements which are constructed without map approval or contrary to the approved map, those maps will be marked and the Corporation will send its report to the government and action will be taken against them. He informed that maps of basements have been approved for parking purposes in many buildings but they are being used for other purposes, which is against the rules. The Chief Engineer informed that in compliance with the orders of the government and the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, investigations are being conducted regarding the activities being conducted in all basements and their standard safety measures and the legality of their construction etc. He informed that the government has also directed that even where basements are approved, digging should not be done during monsoon, and if digging is necessary in unavoidable circumstances, then digging should be done with proper standard safety measures. So that there is no danger to life and property of the working labourers and others.
