SIT's Final Report on Ram Temple Offerings Case
Clean Chit to Champat Rai
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating alleged irregularities related to offerings at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya has submitted its final report to the Uttar Pradesh government. After the Home Department examined the report, it has been made available to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for further necessary action. According to sources, the SIT's final report cleans Champat Rai, former General Secretary of the Ram Temple Trust. It has also been reported that no charges have been filed against Trust member Dr. Anil Mishra.
SIT Formed on Government Order
On June 13, at the Trust's request, the state government formed a three-member SIT to investigate the offerings case. It was headed by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. The team also included IG Range Kiran S. and Special Secretary Finance Neel Ratan Kumar.
During the investigation, the SIT examined the entire matter by recording relevant documents, available facts, and statements from the individuals involved. The team then submitted its final report to the government.
A case was filed after the preliminary report.
The SIT submitted its preliminary investigation report to the government on June 23rd. It recommended strict action in the case. Based on this report, an FIR was registered at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station on June 25th.
Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu were named in the case, based on a complaint by Trust member Krishnamohan. The FIR also named some unidentified individuals as accused.
A case was registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Based on the preliminary investigation, other legal action was taken, including the arrest of the accused.
Questions were also raised about Champat Rai and Anil Mishra.
After the alleged irregularities in the donation amount came to light, questions were raised about the roles of Champat Rai and Dr. Anil Mishra. Both resigned from their positions in the trust during the controversy.
Now, they have received a major reprieve after the SIT's final report revealed that no charges were filed against them. However, the cases filed against the other accused named in the case and further legal action will be decided based on the final report.
