Sonam Wangchuk's fast enters third week, hospitalized amid deteriorating health
Treatment continues under the supervision of doctors at Safdarjung Hospital; Delhi Police refuses permission for 'Parliament Chalo' march
New Delhi, Social activist Sonam Wangchuk's fast has now entered its third week. He has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi after experiencing increased physical weakness and weight loss due to continuous fasting. According to the health update released by the hospital administration, his medical reports are currently normal, but some mild physical changes have been observed due to prolonged abstinence. In light of this, a team of specialist doctors is continuously monitoring him.
Treatment continues under the supervision of doctors
According to hospital doctors, Sonam Wangchuk is being provided with the necessary medical assistance. His condition remains stable, although the effects of the prolonged fast are clearly visible. As a precautionary measure, he is being hospitalized and receiving regular checkups and treatment to address any potential complications in a timely manner.
Permission denied for 'Parliament Chalo' march
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have clarified that the 'Parliament Chalo' march proposed on July 20 in support of Wangchuk will not be permitted. Police state that the Parliament complex is among the most sensitive security zones in the country, and a large gathering there could impact both security and traffic.
According to police officials, the march organizers neither submitted a formal application nor obtained permission. Police also state that permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar was granted for only one day, while the sit-in continued without further approval. Therefore, the current demonstration is also considered incompliant with established regulations.
Movement receiving support from various organizations
On the other hand, Sonam Wangchuk's movement is receiving support from several social organizations and political parties. Supporters say they are protesting their demands in a peaceful and democratic manner. They argue that peaceful demonstrations are every citizen's constitutional right, and that the "Parliament Chalo" march was planned for this purpose.
Hospitalized on High Court's Directive
Recently, the Delhi High Court, recognizing Wangchuk's health condition as serious, directed the administration to ensure regular medical checkups and provide appropriate treatment if necessary. Following the court's directive, he was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital and placed under the supervision of specialist doctors.
Movement and health under scrutiny
While Sonam Wangchuk's treatment continues in the hospital, the situation between the administration and protesters remains sensitive regarding his movement and the proposed "Parliament Chalo" march. His health and the direction of the movement will be closely monitored in the coming days.
