New Delhi. Security has been further tightened in the capital Delhi following the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar and recent violent incidents. Following the chaos during the Parliament march on Monday and the violent incidents in the Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place areas on Tuesday night, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily suspended operations at 16 metro stations as a precautionary measure. However, after reviewing the situation, all stations have now reopened.

According to the DMRC, this step was taken for security reasons to avoid any untoward incident. Interchange services at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat stations continued as normal, with passenger entry and exit restrictions in place.

These 16 stations were temporarily closed.

Metro stations temporarily closed for security reasons included Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirtha, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.

Security increased after protests

During the Parliament march on Monday, a large number of protesters reached Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, creating chaos there. Subsequently, incidents of violence were reported in the Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place areas on Tuesday night. In light of these incidents, Delhi Police is preparing to identify the miscreants and take strict action against them.

Security forces deployed at metro stations and Parliament Road

Additional CRPF deployment has been made on the route leading to Parliament to strengthen security. Meanwhile, Delhi Police personnel are continuously monitoring the Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, and Barakhamba Road metro stations surrounding Jantar Mantar.

Police are monitoring the movement of people outside the metro stations and are also monitoring the number of people heading towards Jantar Mantar. The administration says that all necessary security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order.
