Saharanpur, under the chairmanship of Minister of State Brijesh Singh and in the presence of Mayor Dr. Ajay Singh, MLA Rampur Maniharan Devendra Nim, MLA Behat Umar Ali Khan, District Magistrate Manish Bansal, a meeting was convened in the Collectorate auditorium with the concerned departments in view of flood control and department-wise preparations were discussed and necessary guidelines were given in the wider public interest. The Minister of State said that the safety of people and wealth is our priority during floods. All the concerned departments should be in alert mode. Last year, good work has been done in giving timely compensation and relief work for the loss of life due to floods. This year also, with better coordination and better management, the safety of people will be ensured in case of floods. He said that adequate reserve stock should be collected for the emergency situation of floods. There should also be adequate lighting and necessary equipment at these places. Any farmer whose crop is damaged due to excessive rain should be compensated without delay. There should be better coordination between irrigation and water resources, home, medical and health, irrigation and water resources, food and logistics, revenue and relief, animal husbandry, agriculture, district disaster management. He directed that flood relief control rooms should remain active 24×7 at the district and tehsil level. NDRF, SDRF and PAC flood unit and disaster management teams should remain in active mode for 24 hours. Arrangements for boats and relief material etc. should be made on time. Irrigation Department, Public Works Department, Supply Department and senior administrative officers should jointly visit the areas affected by flood and excessive rain in advance. All necessary help should be provided immediately to the affected families. Mayor Dr. Ajay Singh told about the preparations made by the Municipal Corporation regarding urban flood and cleaning of drains and flood prevention and said that every cooperation will be provided as per the need. MLA Rampur Maniharan Devendra Nim talked about bringing transparency along with speed in the survey to provide immediate compensation to farmers in case of flood loss. So that every eligible person can get assistance from the government as soon as possible. MLA Behat Umar Ali Khan talked about adopting measures in advance to prevent the loss caused by sudden flood water to the shopkeepers who set up shops on the river bank of Maa Shakumbhari Devi Temple. District Magistrate Manish Bansal said that the possibility of spread of diseases increases during and after floods. In such a situation, health kits and dignity kits should be prepared by the Medical and Health Department. Chlorine tablets, ORS etc. should be available. Adequate medicines for fever etc. should be available. In case of snake bite, the affected people should get immediate medical help. He instructed all the departmental officers that any kind of negligence in relief work during the time of disaster will not be tolerated. He said that there should not be waterlogging in any cowshed and the stocked straw and fodder should also not get spoiled. It should be ensured that the animals are vaccinated on time. There should be no compromise on the quality of relief material. Electricity poles, wires, roads etc. should be repaired in time in flood affected areas. DM Manish Bansal said that the data of divers, sailors, swimmers and disaster friends should be kept updated and they should be in constant touch. All flood security posts should be active and banners should be put up on them to display the numbers of the concerned officials. Check the functioning of all the equipment used in relief work beforehand. All dangerous places should be identified in advance and safety measures should be taken by putting warning signs on them. Relief camps should be increased as per the need. All the public representatives present talked about taking rescue measures in advance in view of the flood sensitive places in their respective areas. He said that the public representatives are ready to provide every support to the officials for the safety of the common people. All the public representatives expressed concern over the damage caused by the Dhamola river.
