On the occasion of New Year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is bringing a big gift for the people living in slums. On January 3, keys of new flats will be handed over to the slum dwellers in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. These flats have been built under the Central Government's "Jahan Jhuggy, Wahin Makaan" scheme. The aim of this scheme is to provide better and safer houses to the families living in slums.

Sabhiman Flats: A New Beginning

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has built 1,645 houses named "Sabhiman Flats" in Ashok Vihar area. These houses have been equipped with modern facilities, which will give the people living in slums a chance to live a better life. The aim of this scheme is to improve the living standards of the people living in slums by providing them permanent housing.

Crores of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the central government is aiming to provide additional two crore houses from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. According to the Ministry of Rural Development, so far 3.33 crore houses have been allotted, out of which 3.22 crore houses have been approved. Out of these, 2.68 crore houses have already been completed. Through this scheme, an effort is being made to empower the poor by giving them houses.

Big step of the government
This step of the government is being considered a major initiative towards bringing the weaker sections of the society into the mainstream. By getting permanent housing to the slum dwellers, not only will their lives be safe, but they will also be able to take advantage of better opportunities for education, health and employment. This effort of Prime Minister Modi is another step towards providing an opportunity to live an equal life to every section of the society.
