Ambehta | Saharanpur, A PCS officer resident of village Shambhugarh of Ambehta in Saharanpur district has set an inspirational example in the society by marrying without dowry. Bhanu Pratap Singh, who is currently working as SGST officer in Moradabad, has married Shivanshi, daughter of Pawan Kumar in a simple family of Bahadarabad, Uttarakhand. Dalbir Singh told that cash was given by the bride's side during the marriage ceremony, but his son flatly refused to take dowry. Not only this, his son also refused to take the household goods ordered by the bride's side for the wedding. While nowadays lakhs and crores of rupees are demanded in the name of dowry, Bhanu Pratap Singh has rejected this practice and has taken only 1 rupee and a coconut as shagun from the in-laws.

Bhanu Pratap Singh's decision was also fully supported by his family. His father Dalbir Singh, who has served in the PWD department, and his mother Nirmala Singh called this marriage an example for the society. Shivanshi is a resident of Begumpur village of Bahadarabad in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. She belongs to a simple family. Marriage without dowry also gave relief to her family and gave the message of women empowerment in the society. There is an atmosphere of pride about this marriage in Bhanu Pratap's village Shambhugarh. The people of the village are considering this initiative as a big step towards social reform. This step of Bhanu Pratap Singh is going to spread awareness in the society against the dowry system. This marriage not only strengthens women empowerment, but is also a ray of hope for those families who are troubled by the burden of dowry.

Bhanu Pratap Singh said that dowry is a curse for the society. The young generation will have to come forward to end it.
