The ministers of both the states held talks regarding the long-standing border dispute between Mizoram and Assam. During this, an agreement was reached to work together to resolve the dispute. All the issues were discussed in the meeting held in Aizawl between the delegations of both the states. Also a joint statement was signed.

The last meeting to resolve the border dispute between the northeastern state of Mizoram and Assam was held in Guwahati in November 2022. In the meeting held on Friday, Border Security and Development Minister Atul Bora from Assam and Home Minister K Sapdanga from Mizoram participated in the delegation. This was the fourth time the talks were held between the two states after August 2021 and the first after the Zoram People's Movement came to power in December.

The border dispute has been going on between Mizoram and Assam for a long time. Mizoram's three districts Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit share a 164.6 km long border with Assam's Cachar, Karmaganj and Hailankandi districts. Both the states have their own version of the border based on the demarcation of 1875 and 1933. Mizoram claims that an area of ​​509 square miles of reserved forest falls under its part under the Inner Line fixed in 1875 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 notified in 1875.

At the same time, Assam says that the forest area is shown as part of Assam in the map prepared on the basis of the survey conducted in 1933. However, there is no land demarcation between the two states. The border dispute between the two states is an old and complicated issue which remained unresolved for decades. The border dispute escalated on July 26, 2021 when police forces of the two states clashed, leaving six Assam policemen and a civilian dead.
