Deoband | Saharanpur, Environmentalist Shashank Jain and Gaurav Singhal of Deoband say that there was a time when colours and gulal made from Tesu flowers were available in the markets for playing Holi. These colours were like medicine. On the day of Holi, there was a tradition of soaking Tesu flowers in water and bathing with that water. At present, this tradition is seen less. The importance of Tesu flowers increases in the month of Falgun. These flowers are considered to be like medicine for skin diseases. It is believed that chickenpox and other skin diseases spread after Holi. On the night of Holika Dahan, Tesu flowers were soaked in water in a big vessel in the houses. When the elders and children of the family reached home after playing Holi with colours, they used to bathe with Tesu water, but in the modern era, the importance of Tesu flower may not have decreased, but its use has reduced. The colours and gulaal made from it are no longer available in the markets. It has been replaced by chemical colours. Environmentalists Shashank Jain and Gaurav Singhal of Deoband have appealed to the people of the country to use Tesu flowers again on the day of Holi.
