New Delhi, The Rekha Gupta-led government in Delhi on Friday directed officials to respond immediately to letters, phone calls and messages from MPs and MLAs and warned of disciplinary action against them if they do not do so. The Delhi government has given this instruction at a time when Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta had raised the issue of irresponsible behavior of some officials a day earlier.

Vijender Gupta had written a letter to the Chief Secretary

Vijender Gupta had said in a letter to Chief Secretary Dharmendra that he has been told that some officials do not even acknowledge the communication received from MLAs in the form of letters, phone calls and messages. A circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government said, "The Chief Secretary has taken the matter seriously." It said that the government has issued comprehensive instructions regarding the protocol to be followed while dealing with MLAs and MPs.

Instructions to be strictly followed in letter and spirit
The circular issued by Additional Chief Secretary (GAD) Navin Kumar Choudhary said that the instructions should be strictly followed in letter and spirit. It said, “No such opportunity should be given when MLAs or MPs are forced to make such complaints. Non-compliance of these instructions will attract appropriate disciplinary action and this will be an important part in the evaluation of the concerned officer.”
