Cloud resources are the biggest target for cyber attacks in India. This has been revealed in a study by a multinational firm.

Thales has announced the release of the 2024 Thales Cloud Security Study, based on a survey of about 3,000 IT and security professionals across 37 industries in 18 countries. This study is an annual assessment of the latest cloud security threats, trends and emerging risks.

It said, "The study was based on a global survey of 2,961 respondents, aimed at improving security and IT management.

The study states, "Cloud resources have been identified as the biggest target for cyber attacks in India. Therefore, cloud security spending now tops all other security spending categories".

46 percent believe sensitive data is stored in the cloud

Almost half (46 percent) of respondents in India said that all corporate data stored in the cloud is sensitive and 37 percent of organizations participating in the survey have experienced a cloud data breach in India, while 14 percent of these organizations have experienced it only last year.

According to the study, 35 percent of organizations in India have acknowledged the importance of digital initiatives to make the cloud environment secure in the future and globally, about half of the organizations have admitted that managing compliance and privacy in the cloud is more difficult.

The study revealed that about 34 percent of the root causes of cloud data breaches are human error and incorrect configuration. While in 21 percent of cases, cyber attackers take advantage of already known information. At the same time, the use of multi-factor authentication is in 11 percent of cases.
