Saharanpur, the results of the 18th Lok Sabha in sugarcane belt western Uttar Pradesh have written a new chapter of Jat politics and Jat leadership. BJP has not won any seat in Saharanpur division. SP supported Imran Masood waved the flag of his victory for the first time on Saharanpur Lok Sabha seat. Imran Masood easily defeated BJP candidate Raghav Lakhanpal Sharma. This was the third consecutive contest between the two. Raghav Lakhanpal Sharma tasted victory by defeating Imran Masood in 2014. But in 2019 he lost to BSP alliance candidate Fazlur Rehman Qureshi and this time he lost to Imran Masood who contested the election with full force on behalf of India Alliance. BJP has also lost Kairana Lok Sabha seat of Saharanpur division. Its candidate and MP Pradeep Chaudhary was defeated by Congress-backed SP candidate Iqra Hasan in an interesting contest. 27-year-old Iqra Hasan, who is educated in London and contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time, was considered a strong contender for victory from the very beginning. Iqra Hasan's mother Tabassum Hasan and father Munawwar Hasan and Baba Akhtar Hasan have also been MPs.
In the prestigious contest of Muzaffarnagar, Union Minister of State Dr. Sanjeev Balyan had to face defeat in a close contest at the hands of SP candidate and prominent Jat leader Harendra Malik. Sanjeev Balyan's defeat has given a big blow to the BJP. Sanjeev Balyan had made his mark as a big leader of the Jats by winning the last two elections. But Balyan could not do anything in front of Harendra Malik, who is an expert in election strategy. Baliyan also had to bear the brunt of the displeasure of BJP members. The interesting thing is that the alliance of BJP and RLD proved successful in itself just before the elections. Its candidate Rajkumar Sangwan from Baghpat and Yuva Rashtriya Lok Dal president Chandan Chauhan from Bijnor defeated SP candidate Deepak Saini in a close contest and entered the Parliament for the first time. Chandan Chauhan also belongs to a big political family. His father Sanjay Chauhan has been an MP and MLA and his grandfather Chaudhary Narayan Singh was the Deputy Chief Minister. Jayant Chaudhary's victory score was 100%. By winning both the seats allotted to the alliance, he did a great job of saving the party from the wave of SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav and the Congress which was part of the alliance. Critics believe that if BJP had given more seats to RLD, then BJP could have benefited a lot.
Remember that RLD had won seven seats while being in the India Alliance. But at the last moment, while going with BJP, it had to be satisfied with only two seats. Now Jayant Chaudhary has emerged as the undisputed and influential leader of Western Uttar Pradesh. He himself did not contest the Lok Sabha elections this time and had put forward his worker Rajkumar Sangwan from a simple background on his traditional Baghpat seat. Similarly, he had fielded a reputed Gurjar leader from western Uttar Pradesh and RLD MLA from Meerapur in Bijnor. All the experiments of Jayant Chaudhary have been successful. Jayant Chaudhary may not have been able to win Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Amroha etc. seats for the BJP but he has definitely established himself as a force in today's new politics and new India.
