Big success for security forces near Karegutta hills in Bijapur district
22 Naxalites killed
A major encounter took place between security forces and Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, May 7. During this, more than 22 Naxalites were killed. Earlier on Tuesday, a female Naxalite was killed in an encounter here. This operation is considered to be one of the biggest anti-Naxal operations conducted in the Bastar region.
According to the information, the operation against the Naxalites was carried out jointly by Chhattisgarh Police forces like District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and Special Task Force (STF). The police started this action after receiving an intelligence information, in which it was reported that senior leaders of the Maoist organization's largest military unit 'Battalion No. 1' and top Maoist commander of Telangana State Committee were hiding.
Police statement
The police has given important information about this encounter. Chhattisgarh Police Senior Chhattisgarh Police officer Sundarraj P K said that in the action so far, many senior Maoist leaders have either been killed or seriously injured. This dense forest and hilly area of Bijapur is considered to be the base of 'Battalion No. 1'. During this, hundreds of Naxalite hideouts and bunkers have been destroyed.
Large quantity of weapons recovered
The police have recovered a large quantity of explosive material, detonators, food items and everyday useful items along with the body of the Naxalite from the encounter site. During this operation, at least six jawans of STF, DRG and CoBRA have been injured in different IED blasts, although all are in stable condition and are out of danger. According to the police, 146 Naxalites have been killed in the state so far in the year 2025, out of which 129 have been killed in Bastar division alone.
Earlier 4 Naxalites died
Earlier, the security forces had killed 4 Naxalites in the same area. The soldiers have recovered more than 200 IEDs during the search operation in Karegutta area. The soldiers have been deployed at an altitude of 5 thousand feet near the mountain. It is being said that if Naxalites try to enter Chhattisgarh from Telangana border, they will have a direct confrontation with the army.
