The youngest world champion Gukesh Dommaraju will face world number one Magnus Carlsen in Norway Chess next year. The tournament will be played here from May 26 to June 6.
18-year-old Gukesh won the Tata Steel Masters this year, led India to gold in the Chess Olympiad, shone in the Candidates Tournament and won the World Championship title in Singapore last week. Gukesh said in a release, "I am excited to face one of the strongest players in the world again in Norway. Armageddon will be fun."
Gukesh finished third here last year but this time he will challenge Carlsen in his home as the world champion. Norway Chess founder and tournament director Jel Medland said, "This match will be great. It will be interesting to see how the world champion faces the number one player. The whole world will be watching this." Norway Chess will feature the world’s top men’s and women’s players playing in a six-player double round-robin format.
