Four Ugandan boxers did not return with the team

According to a report on Ugandan sports website NBS Sport, four players from the country's boxing team have reportedly gone missing in Scotland. According to reports, these players did not return home with their team on a scheduled flight on Tuesday, raising concerns that they were missing.

Pakistani boxer Qudratullah also missing

Meanwhile, a case of a missing athlete from Pakistan has also been reported. According to a reliable source within the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), boxer Qudratullah reportedly disappeared from the team hotel after his bout. It was reported that his passport was in the custody of the team manager, yet he managed to leave the hotel. However, the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has not yet officially commented on the matter.

Police Scotland Confirms Investigation

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated that several complaints of missing athletes have been received. He stated that the circumstances of each case are being investigated and necessary action is being taken in coordination with the UK Home Office.

Similar Cases Involving the Pakistani Boxing Team Have Occurred Before

Such incidents are not new to the Pakistan Boxing Federation. Previously, Pakistani athletes have gone missing after separating from the team during international competitions.

Commonwealth Games 2022 (Birmingham): Boxers Suleman Baloch and Nazirullah Khan disappeared after separating from the team. At that time, their passports were also found to be in the custody of officials.
World Olympic Qualifiers 2024 (Italy): Asian gold medalist Zohaib Rashid was accused of fleeing the Italian city of Busto Arsizio after stealing foreign currency and valuables from his roommate.

Players have previously left teams to seek asylum

Cases of athletes leaving teams or seeking asylum in other countries after Commonwealth Games have been reported previously. Several athletes attempted to separate from their official teams and seek asylum after the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Organizing Committee expresses confidence in coordination with agencies

Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Officer Phil Batty said Glasgow hosted approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 countries. He said that the organising committee is in constant coordination with Police Scotland, Border Force and UK Visa and Immigration Department, so that all the players participate in the competition as per the prescribed rules and can return to their respective countries safely.
