New Delhi. Australia's experienced fast bowler Mitchell Starc is close to achieving a major personal milestone in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting August 13th. If Starc manages to take seven wickets in this series, he will surpass India's legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev and South Africa's legendary Dale Steyn on the list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket. However, Starc says that more important to him than personal records is the success of the Australian team and the path to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Mitchell Starc has taken 433 wickets in Test cricket so far. Kapil Dev has 434, and Dale Steyn has 439. Therefore, if Starc takes seven wickets in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, he will surpass both great bowlers and move ahead on the record list.

Starc clarified that personal achievements always come second to him. His sole focus is on leading Australia to the World Test Championship final. Speaking to the ICC, he said that while it's an honor to be associated with greats like Kapil Dev and Dale Steyn, a player doesn't think about these records once he's on the field. He said that his sole focus is on the team's performance and winning matches.

The Australian team currently holds the top spot in the World Test Championship points table. The team's challenging Test schedule begins with the series against Bangladesh. Australia will then host South Africa, with Test series against New Zealand and India ahead. Consequently, every match is considered crucial in the race for the WTC final.

Excellent Performance in the Current WTC Cycle

Starc has been Australia's most successful bowler in the current World Test Championship cycle. He has taken the most wickets in eight Tests so far, taking 46 wickets. He also displayed his excellent form in the recent Ashes series, taking 31 wickets.
