Saturday (August 1) proved to be a memorable day for Indian boxing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. In a span of just 30 minutes, two Indian women boxers delivered impressive performances and won gold medals. First, Preeti Pawar won gold in the women's 54 kg category, followed by Jasmine Lamboria's second gold medal in the 57 kg category. Both fighters won their respective bouts by unanimous 5-0 verdicts, demonstrating Indian boxing's dominance.

Preeti Pawar demonstrated her strength throughout the tournament

Preeti Pawar faced Scarlett Savannah Delgado of Canada in the women's 54 kg final. Preeti adopted an aggressive approach from the start, earning full 10-10 scores from all five judges in the first two rounds. In the third round, she tired out her opponent with a composed strategy and landed a series of accurate punches, securing a 5-0 victory.

Preeti's performance throughout the tournament was impressive. She defeated Malawi's Deborah Mtenje via Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the round of 16. She then defeated Northern Ireland's Nicole Clyde in the quarterfinals and Zambia's Catherine Mwape 5-0 in the semifinals to reach the final.

Jasmine Lamboria also won her second gold medal

Just minutes after Preeti's victory, Jasmine Lamboria defeated Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh 5-0 in the women's 57 kg category, securing India's second gold medal.

The first round was tight, with Jasmine taking a narrow 3-2 lead. She then took complete control from the second round. She secured a decisive victory in the third round with a 4-1 lead. On her way to the final, Jasmine defeated England's Elise Glynn 4-1 in the quarterfinals and Lesotho's Rapelang Maselela 5-0 in the semifinals.

India's position in the medal tally strengthened

With the addition of two gold medals, India's position in the medal tally for the 2026 Commonwealth Games has further strengthened. India now has a total of 25 medals, including 7 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze. With this performance, the Indian contingent has reached sixth place in the medal tally. The country will now expect medals from its athletes in the remaining events.
