Terrorists attack tourists in Baisaran
26 killed, about 20 injured
Several tourists have been injured in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Police said the attack took place near the Baisaran grasslands. A woman, who survived the attack, told PTI over the phone, "My husband has been shot in the head and seven others have also been injured." The woman did not reveal her identity but pleaded for help to take the injured to the hospital.
Security teams were sent to the area as soon as the incident was reported. A senior police officer said that as soon as the sounds of firing were heard, security forces were sent to the Baisaran area, which is a non-motorable area. Additional information related to the incident is awaited. Search operations are being carried out in the area and the situation is being closely monitored. The attack took place when Pahalgam was full of tourists.

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the attack and said that this cowardly act is reprehensible, in which one person died and many were injured, such violence is unacceptable and should be opposed.
BJP leader Ravinder Raina in Nowshera, Rajouri strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and said that Pakistani terrorists have shown cowardice by killing innocent and unarmed tourists. He said that the army and police have cordoned off the area and those involved in the attack will be severely punished.
LG Manoj Sinha said that I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The culprits of the attack will not be spared. Talks have been held with the DGP and security officials, and the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have reached the spot and are conducting a search operation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the telephone after the incident and directed him to take immediate action on the attack. PM Modi also asked the Home Minister to visit the spot and personally review the situation.
Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep grief and anger over the attack and said that whoever is guilty of this heinous terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir will not be spared. He also said that he will soon leave for Srinagar and hold an emergency meeting with security agencies there.
Strong reaction from political parties
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called this attack the biggest attack on civilians in recent years and said that this attack is a blot on our humanity and strongly condemns it. He said that the injured are being treated and his colleague Sakina Itoo is monitoring the situation at the local hospital.
Congress leader Vikar Rasool Wani said that this attack is not only an attack on tourists but also on the economy and tourism of Kashmir. He demanded a comprehensive investigation from the government.
Tourists injured in the Pahalgam terrorist attack are being airlifted and taken to the Army hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
