New Delhi. Traffic police are continuously issuing advisories in response to road construction and religious pilgrimages in various parts of the country. While special guidelines have been implemented to regulate traffic on National Highway 44 (NH-44) in Jammu and Kashmir during the Amarnath Yatra, a major road in Chennai will be partially closed for the next four months due to a stormwater drainage project. Traffic police in both states have appealed to travelers to adhere to the designated routes and timings before embarking on the pilgrimage.

Traffic Diversions in Chennai to Last for Four Months

According to the Greater Chennai Traffic Police, temporary traffic diversions will be in effect from July 13, 2026, to November 10, 2026, due to stormwater drain construction work on P.T. Rajan Road.

During the construction work, entry of all types of vehicles will be restricted on Jeevanandham Salai. Consequently, vehicles heading towards Jeevanandham Salai from the K.K. Nagar Bus Terminus via P.T. Rajan Road or Anna Main Road will be diverted via alternative routes.

Traffic police stated that such vehicles will reach Ashoka Pillar Junction via Anna Main Road and from there, turn left onto Jawaharlal Nehru Road to reach their destination. Citizens have been urged to use the designated diverted route to avoid unnecessary traffic jams.

Special Traffic Arrangements on NH-44 During the Amarnath Yatra

In view of the Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police Headquarters has issued a new traffic advisory on National Highway 44. According to police, the single-lane road between Madhog and Kishtwar Pather and vehicle breakdowns in the Chandrakot, Madhog, and Ramsu areas are impacting traffic movement. For this reason, cut-off times for light vehicles (LMVs) have been implemented at various locations.

Times for Light Vehicles

Nagrota (Jammu) to Srinagar: 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Qazigund to Jammu: 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Traffic police have advised local travelers to use the old route via Jawahar Tunnel instead of the Lamber route to avoid possible delays during checking and screening in the Banihal area.

Time-bound traffic on Mughal Road and NH-244 also

The advisory also provides timings for vehicle movement on other important hill routes.

Light vehicles will be allowed on the Mughal Road from Poonch to Shopian and from Shopian to Poonch only from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road (NH-244), vehicular traffic in both directions will be allowed only from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. No vehicle will be allowed to proceed after the designated time.

Get Weather and Road Information Before Traveling

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has appealed to all travelers, especially those traveling in hilly areas, to obtain the latest weather, road conditions, and traffic information from the respective traffic control room before embarking. This will ensure safe and smooth travel and avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
