Chennai, The 5-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team once again proved to be a flop in IPL this season. It lost for the 7th time in the season, when this was only its 9th match. After the match, captain MS Dhoni openly admitted that even on an easy pitch for batting, his batsmen did not score runs and the batsmen failed to take advantage of the situation here too. At least 15 to 20 runs were scored less on this pitch.

Chasing the target of 155 runs set by Super Kings, Sunrisers won by scoring 155 runs for five wickets in 18.4 overs with the innings of Ishan Kishan (44), Kamindu Mendis (32 not out) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 not out). Mendis and Nitish took the team to the target by making an unbroken partnership of 49 runs for the sixth wicket.

Earlier, Super Kings lost wickets at regular intervals in front of the sharp bowling of Harshal Patel (4/28), captain Pat Cummins (2/21) and Jaydev Unadkat (2/21) and the team was reduced to 154 runs in 19.5 overs.

Dhoni said after the match, 'I think we kept losing wickets continuously. Another thing is that the wicket was a little better in the first innings and 157 (154) runs was not a proper score. The ball was not turning too much and there was nothing unusual.

He said, 'Yes, there was some help in the second innings. Our spinners were of quality and they were bowling in the right areas but we were able to score 15-20 runs less.'

Dhoni praised Brevis for playing a great innings. He said, 'I think he batted very well and we needed it in the middle order. When spinners come, you score runs either with your batting or by choosing the right areas but this is an area where we want to improve because the middle overs are important.'

He said, 'In such a tournament, if there are shortcomings in one or two areas to be overcome then it is good but when most of the players are not performing well then you need to make changes. You just cannot keep going. We are not able to score enough runs.'
