Siddaramaiah wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi
Informed about the preparation of the draft for the Rohith Vemula Act
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday wrote a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi informing him that he has instructed his legal advisory team to draft the Rohith Vemula Act. This law will act as a preventive measure against discrimination in educational institutions.
Siddaramaiah had said on Friday that the state government is committed to its resolve to implement the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka as soon as possible. Rahul Gandhi had urged him to implement this law so that no person faces caste-based discrimination in the education system.
Siddaramaiah said in his letter, 'Your letter dated April 16, 2025 mentions the incident that happened with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. This is a sad truth even today. No child or adult should face such a shameful and stigmatizing incident, which Babasaheb has faced.
The Chief Minister assured that he and his government are committed to building an egalitarian society. "We have to unite and bring Dalits, Adivasis and backward classes into the mainstream. The oppressed classes should not face any kind of discrimination in our education system now," he said.
"I have directed my legal advisor and his team to prepare a draft of the Rohith Vemula Act. This law will effectively prevent discrimination in educational institutions," he said.
In his letter to the Karnataka Chief Minister, Rahul Gandhi had highlighted the discrimination faced by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in his life and said that Siddaramaiah would agree that what Ambedkar faced was shameful and no child in India should have to endure this.
