Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat
Jumped to number 7, kept playoff hopes alive
New Delhi, Royal Challengers Bangalore struggled to achieve the target of 148 runs set by Gujarat Titans in the 52nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Bengaluru team lost six wickets to achieve this target and accomplished it in 13.4 overs, especially when Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis scored a stormy 92 runs in 35 balls for the first wicket. Had given a great start by forming a partnership. In this match held on Saturday at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru won the toss and bowled first and bowled out Gujarat for 147 runs in 19.3 overs and then chased the target by losing 6 wickets in 13.4 overs.
This is Bengaluru's fourth win in 11 matches and now it has eight points. After this spectacular victory, the net run rate of the team has also improved a lot and due to this it has jumped four places from 11th to seventh position. With this, Bengaluru has kept its hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. Gujarat has faced seventh defeat in 11 matches. The team has now slipped to ninth position with eight points.
Chasing the target of 148 runs given by Gujarat, Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis (64) and Virat Kohli (42) made a stormy partnership of 92 runs in 35 balls for the first wicket and eliminated Gujarat from the match. After Du Plessis was out in the sixth over, Bengaluru's batting faltered and the team again lost 5 wickets for the next 111 runs. Apart from Du Plessis, this included the wickets of last match's century-scorer Will Jack (1), Rajat Patidar (2), Glenn Maxwell (4) and Cameron Green (1).
Of these 5 wickets, Joshua Little alone took four wickets and Noor Ahmed took one wicket. However, experienced Virat Kohli was stuck at one end. But in the 11th over, Noor trapped Virat in his googly and gave a big blow to Bengaluru by getting caught by Wriddhiman Saha behind the wicket. Kohli hit one four and four sixes in 25 balls.
Now all the expectations rested on Karthik's shoulders and he did not disappoint his team. Karthik along with Spinil Singh made the second partnership of the match of 41 runs for the seventh wicket and gave Bengaluru a win by four wickets. Apart from Joshua Little's four wickets, Noor Ahmed took two wickets for Gujarat.
Earlier, Bengaluru won the toss and bowled first, bowling out Gujarat for 147 runs in 19.3 overs. Bengaluru all outed any team for the first time this season. This is the lowest score of any team in Bengaluru this season. At the same time, Gujarat Titans team was all out for the third time this season, which is the highest compared to any other team. But then Rahul Tewatia (35) and Rashid Khan (18) added 44 runs for the sixth wicket to take their team to a respectable score. Rashid hit two fours and a six in 13 balls. Tewatia hit five fours and one six in 21 balls. After the dismissal of Rashid and Tewatia, Gujarat team was reduced to 147 runs in 19.3 overs.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Yash Dayal, Mohammad Siraj and Vijaykumar Vaishakh took two wickets each and Cameron Green and Karn Sharma took one wicket each.
